Foundation Support
MSU’s Knight Center for Environmental Journalism is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. It is one of 18 specialty journalism programs from across the country that the foundation endows.
The Knight Foundation was established in 1950 as a private foundation independent of the Knight brothers’ newspaper enterprises. It is dedicated to furthering their ideals of service to community, to the highest standards of journalistic excellence and to the defense of a free press.
The Knight Center also relies on regional and national foundations for support. Grants and other gifts are used to:
- Support scholarships for students and professional journalists.
- Increase training and education opportunities through the development of online courses.
- Conduct outreach and research efforts that will improve the quality of environmental journalism.
